Empowering rural Latin American Women— this is Mercado Global. Mercado Global is a nonprofit based in Panajachel, Guatemala, which was launched fifteen years ago with a mission to transform the lives of women, their families, and their communities – making a lasting, positive impact. Through donor-funded business education and leadership programs, they help women create community businesses to support themselves and their families. By designing collections for the international market while using traditional local weaving techniques, they change the status quo for women, communities, and the industry.

Mercado hired me to document their in-studio production house, the incredibly talented artisans, and products. I embarked on a journey to get to know the organization's women as I spent the day learning about their creative processes and what the environment is like at Mercado. I captured photos and videos of their new line COVID masks for an upcoming campaign and press releases. The content is showcased on Mercado Global's website, social media, and in the Brooklyn Eagle Newspaper.
