Mayan Families

Photographer, director, producer, editor and writer for all branded content.

Mayan Families is a nonprofit that works to advance education, nutrition and health, and economic development through community-led initiatives that build on existing resources and knowledge in the Lake Atitlán region of Guatemala. This organization focuses heavily on providing indigenous communities with sustainable education. They strongly believe education is the key to success, which translates into their other programs, such as their economic development programs and health initiatives.

I worked with this organization for a year, documenting and telling the stories of all of their programs, the communities which they serve, and the beautiful transformations people experience through this organization. Every week I got the opportunity to go out into the field and to step into the shoes of these people’s lives for a moment. It opened my heart and mind immensely as I saw and documented the harsh conditions people lived in and some of the challenges they faced. I aimed to focus less on capturing their tough struggles but instead documenting the true essence of each person I encountered while telling the story of their lifestyle, culture, and unique traditions they celebrate.

The photographic content was produced for the Mayan Families FacebookInstagram, website, campaigns and marketing collateral.
